Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). After moving to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma attended The Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma knew she would like to become an actress. Over several years, she trained at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre academy where she studied dance and acting. Her performances had been in a variety of Stagecoach and school productions before she was 10 years old. When 1999 began, casting was announced to cast Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by agents via her Oxford teacher. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint of their auditions after eight. They were cast as the three lead characters Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's film debut. The film was also the most successful film in 2001. Its opening weekday and weekend the sales were unbeatable. The film was praised by critics and the performances of the three acclaimed young actors. The widely distributed British paper The Daily Telegraph called her performance "awesome. Emma was awarded the Young Artist Award as the most outstanding young actor in a Feature Film. The actress was nominated five times for her performance in the film.
